Reading speed

How fast Trace speaks. If you already use a screen reader at high speed, you probably want this higher than it starts.

Voice

Trace narrates with a natural ElevenLabs voice by default. This list is the backup voice used only if that request fails — you'll be listening to it for a whole lesson if it kicks in, so pick one you can stand. Each one speaks as soon as you choose it.

Voice

No other voices are installed on this device, so Trace will use the system default.

Account

You're using Trace without an account. Everything works, and every class stays on this device.

Add a name and a PIN if you want your classes on more than one device — a school laptop and your phone, say.

Where your data goes

  • Without an account, your classes never leave this device. They're stored in this browser and nowhere else.
  • Camera frames are sent to the vision model that reads the board (Qwen2.5-VL, run by Nebius AI Studio) while a class is running. That's the only third party Trace talks to, and only while you're in a class.
  • Live audio is transcribed by your own browser's speech recognition. Trace never records or stores the audio itself.
  • With an account, your saved classes are also kept on Trace's server so they follow you between devices. Your PIN is never stored — only a salted PBKDF2 hash of it, which can't be turned back into your PIN. Five wrong PINs locks the account for fifteen minutes.
  • Signing out clears every class off this device, so a shared school laptop doesn't keep your work. Delete all my classes erases them from the server too, permanently.
  • There are no analytics, no trackers, and no ads anywhere in Trace.
